How COVID-19 Is Affecting the Child Welfare System<\/h3><\/div>\t\t\t

As we navigate through the pandemic landscape of COVID-19, Advokids' Free Telephone Hotline services will remain operational.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

With school closures and additional family and societal stressors at this time, children are especially vulnerable. We are proud that we have the technical tools we need in place to continue to provide Hotline services while allowing our staff to work remotely.<\/p>\n

If you need information or support from Advokids\u2019 Hotline, at this time we prefer that you email us at advocate@adevine.io<\/a>\u00a0and a staff member will respond. If you do not have internet access, you can call\u00a0877.ADV4KID\u00a0<\/b>and leave a message.\u00a0<\/b>Although our staff will be available to callers, with many juvenile courts having closed and more closures anticipated, filing court forms and petitioning for court hearings may not be effective at this time.<\/p>\n

If at any time, you feel that a child is at risk of immediate harm, call the police, the sheriff, or\u00a0your local county Child Protective Services Hotline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Updated April 2, 2020: In response to the current pandemic, Juvenile courts across the state have implemented CA Courts Emergency Orders<\/a>. For emergency measures and information from the California\u00a0State Department of Social Services, see\u00a0Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Information<\/a>. For emergency<\/strong> measures implemented by your local county child welfare agency, see individual county websites<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Updated April 6, 2020: On April 6, 2020, the Judicial Council issued emergency rules to clarify how trial courts should be operating during the pandemic. Rule 6<\/span> gives direction to dependency courts. View Emergency Rules.<\/a><\/p>\n

Updated May 7, 2020: The National Association of Counsel for Children has issued a Tip Sheet<\/a> detailing what children and youth in the child welfare system need from their attorneys during the COVID19 epidemic.<\/p>\n

Updated September 16, 2020: San Diego information on participation in juvenile court hearings via telephone or Microsoft Teams. English<\/a> and Spanish<\/a> versions. Los Angeles courts \"roll call\" numbers<\/a>. Families may call the appropriate number at 8:30am M-F given a time to return for their hearing.<\/p>\n
