Population: Advocates concerned about the safety, security, and permanency of a child in California's child welfare system 

Focus: Legal assistance and information

 

Description:

Advokids is a legal advocacy non-profit that supports foster children and children at risk of neglect or abuse by improving access to the Juvenile Court and encouraging system wide reporting and accountability.  Advokids’ promotes the health and safety of all abused and neglected children throughout California with a special focus on the unique psychological and developmental needs of children ages 0-5. Advokids' legal services and programs include the only free telephone Hotline in the state for anyone concerned about a child at risk; legal trainings for attorneys, social workers, CASAs, health professionals and caregivers; a comprehensive legal educational website providing information and tools to navigate the child welfare system and juvenile dependency courts.; and referral to compassionate qualified attorneys when needed. 

Advokids is a small but mighty nonprofit staffed by a team of highly experienced attorneys and child welfare experts.

 

Responsibilities:

Advokids is looking for a student to assist with our Hotline, website, and systemwide reform. We are looking for someone who is research oriented and has strong writing skills. The legal intern will become well versed in Juvenile Dependency Law and will work closely with our directors and staff attorneys.

  • Legal research and writing to enhance and expand legal content on our website
  • Assist with telephone hotline case intake
  • General legal staff support

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have an interest in child welfare practice and reform and a working knowledge of legal concepts and terminology as well as legal research methods and techniques
  • Law Student or Recent Graduate (0-3 Years)
