Hours Per Week: 12-16
Population: Foster children and children at risk of entering foster care
Focus: Preventing and mitigating trauma for young children in foster care
Setting: Advokids’ office
Description:
Advokids is a nonprofit organization in Corte Madera, CA providing legal guidance and support to California foster parents, relative caregivers, and anyone else advocating for a foster child. Advokids operates the only free telephone hotline for foster child advocates in California and maintains a comprehensive, educational website that provides tools, court forms, and information to encourage and empower anyone concerned about a child in foster care or a child at risk of entering foster care.
The psychology intern will work directly with Advokids’ executive and deputy directors to expand the organization’s knowledge and implementation of child psychology and neuroscience. The intern will conduct and systematize research around trauma, mental health, and brain development, in order to inform our advocacy for children in foster care in California.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, catalog and systematize research on mental health, neuroscience, and child development
- Create and maintain a leading-edge library of research on trauma as it relates to neurological and emotional development
Qualifications:
- Working towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in psychology and/or early childhood development.
